TL;DR · Hardware Test Engineer (Starlink)

SpaceX seeks a Hardware Test Engineer to join its Starlink team, focusing on designing and automating test systems for battery and power systems development and qualification. This role involves developing cross-functional automation solutions, creating ground support equipment, and managing large-scale projects from early design through implementation. The ideal candidate will have experience with instrumentation, data acquisition system design, and programming in Python, MATLAB, or C/C++. They should also be proficient in using various electrical test equipment and PLCs, capable of designing user interfaces for complex machines, and adept at troubleshooting software-hardware interactions. This position requires extensive knowledge of digital and analog interfaces and the ability to work collaboratively across multiple disciplines on a project that aims to set new standards for factory automation and efficiency.

What you'll do

  • Develop and document cross-functional automation solutions to enhance test capability, coverage, and safety.
  • Design and implement test equipment and ground support systems for battery management and automated testing.
  • Build, checkout, troubleshoot, and maintain electrical test equipment and facilities infrastructure.
  • Create user-friendly interfaces for complex machines used in factory environments.
  • Architect, write, and debug PLC code to control and manage network infrastructure interfaces.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related STEM field
  • 1+ years of experience with instrumentation and data acquisition system design
  • Experience programming in Python, MATLAB, or C/C++
  • Proficiency with oscilloscopes, DMMs, DAQs, power supplies, and other test equipment
  • Extensive knowledge of digital and analog interfaces (USB, VISA, TCP/IP, CAN bus)
  • Ability to troubleshoot software-hardware interactions and design PLC code
  • Experience in building and activating thermal, vacuum, or electromechanical systems
