TL;DR · Hardware System Integration Electrical Engineer

As a Hardware System Integration Electrical Engineer - Mac, you will join the team responsible for MacBook Air design to manage complex system-level tradeoffs involving performance, battery life, thermals, and reliability. You will own electrical and system design integration by defining, designing, simulating, and validating subsystems while collaborating with mechanical engineering, Apple Silicon, software, and module technology teams. Your daily work involves translating requirements into robust designs, developing schematics, implementing constrained multilayer PCBs, and leading system bring-up and debugging. You will utilize skills in circuit design, power delivery, high-speed interfaces, and signal integrity. Required tools and technologies include Allegro or equivalent EDA tools, high-speed oscilloscopes, vector network analyzers, BERTs, and protocol analyzers. The role focuses on solving integration challenges within highly space-constrained consumer products to ensure manufacturing efficiency and product quality.

What you'll do

  • Translate product requirements into robust electrical subsystem designs and technical specifications.
  • Develop schematics and implement highly constrained, multilayer PCB designs using industry-standard tools.
  • Perform simulation, testing, and validation of high-speed interfaces and power delivery networks.
  • Act as the Design Responsible Individual to lead technical discussions and present design tradeoffs to leadership.
  • Lead system bring-up and debug complex hardware issues across multiple levels of abstraction.
  • Resolve manufacturing yield excursions and root-cause production issues during the mass production phase.
  • Implement design improvements to enhance product quality, manufacturability, and production efficiency.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or equivalent.
  • 3+ years of industry experience designing consumer electronics and/or embedded systems with cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals including analog and digital circuit design, signal integrity, and power integrity.
  • Experience in circuit design for power, digital, analog, high-speed interfaces, programmable logic, and wireless systems.
  • Expertise in constrained multilayer PCB designs, HDI technologies, fine-pitch BGAs, and proficiency with Allegro or equivalent tools.
  • Experience with electrical validation and debug using oscilloscopes, vector network analyzers, BERTs, and protocol analyzers.
  • Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping, new technology bring-up, and first-to-market product development (preferred).
  • Ability to understand and debug complex problems from system architecture down to silicon/transistor levels (preferred).
