TL;DR · Hardware Engineer I
The Hardware Engineer I - ACM joins the airway management R&D team to develop next-generation hardware-enabled medical devices for high-acuity environments like operating rooms and intensive care units. This role focuses on developing embedded electronic hardware, where you will design electronic schematics, create printed circuit board layouts, perform component selection, and manage bill of materials. You will build, troubleshoot, and integrate prototype hardware using oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power supplies, and logic analyzers. The position requires proficiency in ECAD tools for schematic capture and PCB layout, as well as experience with communication protocols like I2C, SPI, and UART. You will also conduct circuit simulations, verification testing, and electromagnetic compatibility pre-compliance activities. This role solves critical technical challenges in airway management by integrating electronics and embedded systems to improve patient care and clinician workflow.
Skills
What you'll do
- Develop electronic schematics and printed circuit board (PCB) layouts following established design standards.
- Perform component selection, datasheet analysis, bill of materials maintenance, and engineering change documentation.
- Conduct circuit calculations, simulations, and technical evaluations to support design verification and reliability.
- Build, modify, and troubleshoot prototype hardware using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other laboratory equipment.
- Support board bring-up, fault isolation, and hardware-software integration for embedded systems.
- Execute verification testing, environmental evaluations, and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) pre-compliance activities.
- Create test reports, design records, and technical documentation to support quality and risk management requirements.
What we're looking for
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering.
- 0-2 years of hardware design experience including internships, research projects, or equivalent hands-on engineering work.
- Experience completing at least one hardware development cycle from schematic capture through PCB layout, fabrication, and board bring-up.
- Experience with communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, or UART.
- Experience using electronic computer-aided design (ECAD) tools for schematic capture and PCB layout.
- Experience using laboratory test equipment including oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, and DC power supplies.
- Experience in regulated industries such as medical devices, automotive, or aerospace (preferred).
- Work authorization at the time of hire and for the duration of employment.
