As a GNC Engineer (Starship), you will join a team of engineers to develop, analyze, and test flight control systems for the Starship vehicle. Your daily responsibilities include developing innovative guidance, navigation, and control systems, implementing new software or algorithms for unique mission capabilities, and creating 6-DOF dynamics simulation models for analysis and validation. You will analyze launch vehicle trajectories, performance dispersions, and flight stability while conducting post-flight data reviews and hardware-in-the-loop testing. The role requires proficiency in Python and C++ alongside expertise in control systems, orbital mechanics, classical dynamics, modeling, and simulation. You will solve complex problems regarding flight stability and systems architecture to enable high-performance launch vehicle operations and reliable spacecraft flight for human spaceflight missions.
Develop innovative guidance, navigation, and control systems for the Starship vehicle.
Design multi-disciplinary vehicle systems to define the overall systems architecture.
Implement new software and algorithms to enable unique mission capabilities and performance.
Develop 6-DOF dynamics simulation models for GNC systems analysis and validation.
Analyze launch vehicle trajectories, performance dispersions, and flight stability.
Conduct post-flight data reviews and correlate results with existing analyses.
Perform GNC software testing using hardware-in-the-loop, Monte Carlo analysis, and unit testing.
Support launch and mission operations for the vehicles you helped develop.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in physics or an engineering discipline.
Experience with control systems, orbital mechanics, classical dynamics, modeling, and simulation.
Experience with the software languages Python or C++.
Postgraduate degree in physics or an engineering discipline (preferred).
2+ years of professional experience in control systems, orbital mechanics, classical dynamics, aerodynamics, sensors, actuators, modeling, simulation, C++, and Python (preferred).
Demonstrated project or professional experience in launch vehicle and/or spacecraft systems (preferred).
Must be a U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or eligible for Department of State authorization.
Willingness to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed.
