The Functional Safety Technical Leader joins the Common Hardware Group to support the next-generation power engineering team focused on Fault Managed Power. This role involves leading the development of functional safety processes from early architecture through certification and production release. The individual will develop and execute a functional safety management plan to ensure hardware platform compliance while collaborating with hardware, embedded, software, mechanical, thermal, and test engineering teams. Key responsibilities include performing safety analysis methods such as FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, DFA, HARA, dependent failure analysis, fault injection planning, and reliability assessment. The role requires expertise in IEC 61508 or ISO 26262 standards to manage safety mechanisms for fault detection, diagnostics, and safe-state behavior. The work centers on high-reliability power distribution systems, including Power over Ethernet and datacenter-scale HVDC power systems within the infrastructure domain.
Lead the development of functional safety processes from early architecture through production release.
Develop and execute functional safety management plans to ensure hardware platform compliance.
Perform safety analysis using methods such as FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, and fault injection planning.
Define and review safety mechanisms for fault detection, diagnostics, isolation, and safe-state behavior.
Guide engineering teams through technical reviews, work-product closures, and supplier evidence audits.
Manage the certification process to ensure products meet IEC 61508 or other relevant standards.
Oversee safety requirements across hardware, embedded systems, software, and power distribution components.
What we're looking for
A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering with 8+ years of experience is required.
A Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering with 6+ years of experience is required.
A PhD in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering with 3+ years in system level development is required.
Experience leading functional safety planning and execution for hardware, semiconductor, embedded, power, or similar safety-critical systems is required.
Experience developing and executing functional safety management plans is required.
Experience applying safety analysis methods such as FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, DFA, HARA, dependent failure analysis, fault injection planning, or reliability assessment is required.
Familiarity with IEC 61508, ISO 26262, IEC 62368, or UL 1400-1 standards is preferred.
Experience defining safety mechanisms for fault detection, diagnostics, isolation, redundancy, and safe-state behavior is preferred.
