The Facility/Utilities Engineer joins the Plant Engineering team to provide technical support for a site featuring an Energy Center, Vaccine Manufacturing Facility, Quality Labs, and a Packaging facility. This role focuses on mechanical system improvements, optimizations, and leading capital projects involving equipment upgrades and productivity enhancements. The successful candidate will manage contractors and staff while overseeing utility systems such as USP water, HVAC, electrical distribution, chillers, boilers, AHUs, and clean steam generators. Key responsibilities include investigating deviations, performing technical writing for GMP documentation, and troubleshooting complex mechanical issues to ensure process consistency. Required expertise includes experience with HVAC and refrigerant systems, root cause analysis, and Lean Six Sigma tools. The role addresses the critical need for reliable utility processes that meet cGMP requirements within a biopharmaceutical manufacturing environment to maintain equipment uptime and minimize operational costs.
Manage individual contributors and contractors while providing technical guidance on mechanical systems.
Lead capital projects involving the replacement and upgrade of plant engineering equipment.
Identify and implement process improvements and productivity initiatives to maximize equipment uptime and minimize costs.
Investigate and resolve manufacturing deviations by collaborating with Operations, Automation, and Quality teams.
Perform thorough reviews of engineering records and GMP documentation to ensure regulatory compliance.
Develop training materials and serve as a subject matter expert for utility system maintenance.
Troubleshoot and maintain critical utility equipment including chillers, boilers, AHUs, and water systems.
Manage project budgets and forecast resource needs to meet departmental performance objectives.
What we're looking for
Bachelor of Science in engineering or technology (other scientific fields considered with strong relevant experience).
Five or more years of facility/utility experience.
Familiarity with cGMPs and regulatory requirements.
Experience in utility, HVAC, and refrigerant system process improvement and optimization.
Technical writing and deviation investigation skills.
Problem solving and troubleshooting skills.
cGMP experience in a pharmaceutical environment (preferred).
Formal problem-solving techniques like RCA, FMEA, or Lean Six Sigma tools (preferred); industrial mechanical experience; and minimum three years of supervisory or project management experience (preferred).
