Engineering Lead, Transaction Processing

What you'll do

• Lead the development of Wise's first international credit offering from the ground up.
• Own the full transaction lifecycle including authorization, tokenization, clearing, and card scheme integrations.
• Define and execute the technical roadmap to ensure system scalability, reliability, and low latency.
• Provide hands-on technical leadership by guiding architectural decisions, code reviews, and best practices.
• Mentor and coach a diverse team of engineers to foster technical growth and ownership.
• Partner with product management to define requirements, prioritize impactful work, and shape the product strategy.
• Ensure all systems comply with local regulations and maintain high standards of code quality and maintainability.

What we're looking for

• You have a strong background in software engineering with experience designing and building complex, scalable systems.
• You have demonstrated 0 to 1 experience in your career.
• You are an expert in delivering reliable and robust services in a production environment.
• You have experience working with distributed systems and cloud architecture.
• You have experience leading a team in a payments, fintech, or other complex, high-stakes domain (preferred).
• You have prior experience working on a team with a global, distributed setup (preferred).
• You have experience building systems that serve enterprise clients at scale (preferred).
• You have experience scaling teams and systems for global reach (preferred).
