TL;DR · Distinguished Technologist Principal Architect, Platform Security and Firmware Systems

Distinguished Technologist - Principal Architect, Platform Security and Firmware Systems serves as a lead architect for hardware rooted Platform Root of Trust within the commercial PC platform. This role involves envisioning and driving the architecture of hardware, firmware, software, and cloud-integrated security capabilities to protect devices from emerging threats. The individual will define roadmaps for endpoint security controllers, firmware resilience, and secure BIOS configuration management while collaborating with research labs, manufacturing, and supply chain teams. Key responsibilities include developing specifications, proof-of-concepts, and technical requirements for cryptographic identity, attestation, and quantum-safe cryptography. Required expertise includes embedded systems, BIOS/UEFI, secure boot, PKI, and tools like PowerShell, C#, Python, and Java. The role addresses critical security challenges including supply-chain assurance, physical tamper resistance, and secure communication across complex hardware and software ecosystems to deliver cohesive system solutions for enterprise customers.

What you'll do

  • Architect the roadmap for hardware-rooted platform security, including cryptographic identity, attestation, and secure communication.
  • Define firmware resilience capabilities such as hardware-enforced authenticity, recovery, and protection mechanisms.
  • Develop strategies for secure BIOS configuration management and enterprise deployment tools.
  • Lead cross-functional architecture definition across hardware, firmware, cloud services, and manufacturing teams.
  • Anticipate emerging threats like quantum-safe cryptography and supply-chain security to influence platform direction.
  • Create technical specifications, proof-of-concepts, and reference implementations to accelerate the adoption of new capabilities.
  • Support customer briefings, marketing materials, and executive communications regarding PC platform security.
  • Mentor engineers and technical leaders by reviewing designs and providing architectural context.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Extensive experience in PC, embedded, firmware, hardware, or platform system architecture.
  • Deep technical understanding of BIOS/UEFI, secure boot, cryptographic signing, and secure configuration management.
  • Demonstrated ability to architect solutions spanning hardware, firmware, software, cloud services, and manufacturing environments.
  • Experience defining product requirements, writing technical specifications, and influencing roadmap decisions across multiple engineering teams.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical ideas clearly to executive, engineering, customer, sales, and field audiences.
  • Proven ability to lead through influence in a matrixed organization and resolve ambiguity across competing priorities.
  • Experience with hardware roots of trust, DICE/SPDM, quantum-safe cryptography, or enterprise management platforms (preferred).
