TL;DR · Distinguished Architect, Software Development, Claims Automation and Processor Enablement

Distinguished Architect, Software Development – Claims Automation and Processor Enablement serves as a senior technical leader for the architecture and evolution of an enterprise Claims Automation and Processor Enablement ecosystem. This individual contributor role involves defining the technical North Star for intelligent claim assessment, workflow orchestration, and Payment Integrity capabilities. You will build a cohesive architectural roadmap to integrate independently owned products into a scalable, sustainable claims architecture. Key responsibilities include establishing integration patterns, APIs, and shared services while guiding engineering organizations toward a target state that balances automation with human oversight. You will utilize expertise in distributed systems, AI-assisted recommendations, and rules engines to solve complex problems in high-volume transaction-processing environments. The role requires navigating legacy platforms, including COBOL, CICS, and DB2, to ensure operational stability and regulatory compliance.

What you'll do

  • Define and own the end-to-end technical North Star for the Claims Automation and Processor Enablement ecosystem.
  • Establish architectural blueprints for how intelligent claim assessment, workflow orchestration, and adjudication services interact.
  • Define integration patterns, APIs, and shared services to create a cohesive and extensible claims architecture.
  • Partner with engineering leaders to ensure legacy platform modernization aligns with the future claims processing strategy.
  • Resolve competing technical strategies and drive convergence across different organizations with varying priorities and roadmaps.
  • Establish engineering standards, design patterns, and best practices for capabilities within the claims ecosystem.
  • Mentor senior engineers and architects to elevate technical capability and strategic thinking across the organization.
  • Translate technical strategy into measurable business outcomes and provide architectural guidance to executive stakeholders.

What we're looking for

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, architecture, platform engineering, or enterprise technology leadership.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or 19+ years of relevant experience.
  • Demonstrated experience defining architecture across complex, independently owned applications or platforms.
  • Demonstrated ability to define an enterprise technical strategy and translate it into actionable, sequenced roadmaps.
  • Strong experience designing enterprise-scale distributed systems, APIs, integration patterns, and shared platform capabilities.
  • Experience introducing automation, analytics, decisioning, or intelligent capabilities into high-volume operational workflows.
  • Proven ability to influence technical decisions and lead large engineering organizations through technical credibility rather than positional authority.
  • Experience leading technology transformation in complex, high-volume transaction-processing environments.
  • Experience with healthcare payer systems, claims processing, Payment Integrity, or other high-volume regulated transaction-processing environments (preferred).
  • Experience unifying independently developed applications and platforms into a cohesive ecosystem (preferred).
  • Experience integrating AI/ML, intelligent automation, rules engines, analytics, or decisioning platforms into operational workflows (preferred).
  • Experience working with large-scale legacy or mainframe platforms and designing modern capabilities that coexist with or progressively decouple from them (preferred).
  • Familiarity with COBOL, CICS, DB2, batch processing, or comparable legacy transaction-processing technologies (preferred).
  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance environments such as HIPAA, CMS, or SOX (preferred).
  • Experience building or leading platform-engineering, developer-experience, or reusable-capability initiatives (preferred).
  • Contributions to industry thought leadership, open source, technical publications, or professional communities (preferred).
