JOB TITLE: Director of Privacy Engineering, Services
The Director of Privacy Engineering, Services leads a team of engineers and specialists within the Services Engineering organization to develop systems, tools, and techniques that enable privacy-preserving features and product measurement. This leader defines the technical direction for privacy-enabling platforms, ensuring that products like the App Store and iCloud meet high standards for quality and reliability. Key responsibilities include building foundational approaches to make privacy the default in product development, establishing best practices, and inventing rigorous approaches for emerging AI features. The role requires deep expertise in privacy-enhancing technologies including differential privacy, federated learning, on-device processing, tokenization, and data de-identification. The position also involves ensuring compliance with regulations such as GDPR and CCPA while navigating privacy challenges specific to AI/ML training data and model inference.
Lead the privacy engineering organization by setting technical direction and defining team structure.
Direct the design, development, and operation of privacy-enabling services, tools, and platforms.
Develop foundational approaches to ensure privacy is the default in all product development.
Establish and scale privacy guidance and best practices through education and training.
Invent rigorous privacy approaches to address challenges emerging from AI features.
Operate systems that maintain compliance with global regulations like GDPR.
Recruit, develop, and retain exceptional engineering talent across the organization.
What we're looking for
15+ years of software development experience.
5+ years leading engineering organizations with multiple layers of management.
3+ years in privacy leadership.
Proven track record of recruiting, developing leadership talent, and building high-performing engineering cultures at scale.
Deep expertise designing, building, and operating large-scale privacy systems, tools, and infrastructure.
Command of privacy-enhancing technologies (PETs) such as differential privacy, federated learning, on-device processing, tokenization, and data de-identification.
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field.
Experience navigating privacy challenges specific to AI/ML, including training data governance and model inference privacy (preferred).
