As Director of Decision Science & AI/ML at 3M, you will lead the strategic direction and execution of intelligent data products initiatives, transforming static reporting into proactive decision intelligence. Your daily responsibilities include designing next-generation data products that combine data engineering, AI/ML, and semantic foundations to drive business innovation and operational excellence. Key areas of focus are conversational analytics, predictive modeling, dynamic persona-based insights, and robust governance models for Responsible AI. You will collaborate closely with Data Platform, Data Engineering, AI Engineering, Product Management, MDM, and Data Observability teams to ensure alignment on architectural standards and unified data governance. This role requires expertise in data lakehouse architectures, graph data structures, generative AI ecosystems, predictive AI/ML models, and AI Ops/ML Ops lifecycle management, with a focus on driving measurable business outcomes across R&D, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Commercial functions.
Lead the transition from descriptive analytics to Decision Science, building intelligent products for proactive recommendations.
Drive development of conversational data analysis solutions allowing natural language queries for fluid insights.
Develop predictive models and tools for automated decisions in business processes across Commercial, Operational, and Enterprise functions.
Implement decision science frameworks to support strategic, operational, and financial decision-making with predictive and prescriptive insights.
Establish robust enterprise capabilities in Data Cataloging, Metadata Management, and Semantic Data Fabric architecture for high-fidelity data.
Build and scale Knowledge Graphs and Business Ontologies to unify structured and unstructured data for deep reasoning and context-aware search.
What we're looking for
10+ years leading data, analytics, and AI/ML initiatives in enterprise environments
Deep expertise in designing and delivering data engineering, ML platforms, and generative AI ecosystems
Experience with intelligent data products, knowledge graphs, and semantic data layers
Strong background in predictive AI/ML models across marketing, supply chain, and finance domains
Proficiency in AI Ops and ML Ops, including full lifecycle management of AI/ML models
Knowledge of Data Lakehouse architectures, Graph Data Architectures, and cloud-native engineering
Bachelor's degree in computer science or data science required
