The Director, Data Scientist joins the Generative AI Systems team within Card Data Science to lead a seasoned group of natural language processing, speech, and computer vision specialists. You will oversee the development of state-of-the-art generative AI solutions for dialogue, text summarization, reading comprehension, speech recognition, image processing, and time-series sequencing modeling. Responsibilities include partnering with cross-functional teams to build internal and customer-facing applications, experimenting with emerging technologies, and contributing research to major conferences. You will utilize a technical stack including Python, Kubernetes, AWS, H2O, Spark, and relational databases to build machine learning models through all phases of development. This role solves complex business problems by extracting insights from huge volumes of numeric and textual data to improve efficiency and customer experience.

What you'll do

Lead a team of specialists in natural language processing, speech, and computer vision.
Build machine learning models through all phases of development including design, training, and validation.
Develop generative AI-based solutions for dialogue, text summarization, and image processing.
Use Python, Kubernetes, AWS, H2O, and Spark to analyze large volumes of numeric and textual data.
Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver internal and customer-facing applications.
Translate complex technical work into tangible business goals for stakeholders.
Contribute research to major NLP and AI/ML conferences.

What we're looking for

Must have a Bachelor's in a quantitative field plus 9 years of data analytics experience, a Master's plus 7 years, or a PhD plus 4 years.
Must have at least 4 years of experience leveraging open source programming languages for large scale data analysis.
Must have at least 4 years of experience working with machine learning.
Must have at least 4 years of experience utilizing relational databases.
Must have hands-on experience developing data science solutions using open-source tools and cloud computing platforms.
PhD in a STEM field plus 5 years of experience in data analytics (preferred).
At least 1 year of experience working with AWS (preferred).
At least 3 years of experience managing people (preferred).
At least 5 years of experience in Python, Scala, or R for large scale data analysis (preferred).
At least 5 years of experience with machine learning (preferred).
