As the Director, Data Platform (Mainframe Developer), you will provide technical and organizational leadership for globally distributed engineering teams responsible for critical business applications. Your daily work involves leading initiatives such as API enablement, legacy transformation, and data platform evolution while ensuring system resiliency and performance. You will utilize a technical stack including COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, SQL, Java, RESTful services, Informatica, Kafka, and Redis. The role focuses on the modernization of mission-critical recordkeeping and transaction processing platforms within the financial services domain. You will also mentor engineering talent while promoting DevSecOps practices, Site Reliability Engineering principles, and high-volume data processing to resolve complex technical debt and infrastructure challenges.

What you'll do

  • Lead modernization initiatives for mainframe, distributed, and cloud-based data platforms to improve scalability and performance.
  • Establish engineering standards, architecture principles, and governance practices for large-scale technology delivery.
  • Drive the adoption of modern engineering practices including Agile, DevSecOps, automation, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).
  • Manage and mentor a high-performing, globally distributed engineering team through coaching and talent development.
  • Partner with executive leadership to define strategic roadmaps and guide investment decisions for platform evolution.
  • Ensure critical recordkeeping systems meet strict requirements for resiliency, security, compliance, and operational excellence.
  • Remove technical and organizational impediments to improve team effectiveness and delivery execution.
  • Communicate project status, risks, and outcomes effectively to senior stakeholders and business leaders.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field.
  • 12 plus years of software engineering experience, including significant experience supporting and developing large-scale mainframe applications.
  • Deep expertise with COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM, and enterprise mainframe development practices.
  • Experience designing, developing, and supporting mission-critical recordkeeping, transaction processing, and data management platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL in DB2 and Oracle environments.
  • Experience driving application modernization initiatives including API enablement, legacy transformation, cloud integration, and platform simplification.
  • Experience with Java, RESTful services, and distributed application architectures (preferred).
  • Experience with ETL technologies, Informatica, data integration, and large-volume data processing; experience with cloud platforms (preferably Azure), Kafka, or Redis (bonus/plus).
