TL;DR · Design Intern, Advanced Integrated Circuits Research

The Design Intern 2027 - Advanced Integrated Circuits Research will join a team of engineers and researchers at IBM Research to develop innovative integrated circuits using deep submicron CMOS technologies. The role involves collaborating on architecture and system-level development, performing design and synthesis for digital and mixed-signal circuit building blocks, and conducting co-simulation and verification. Key responsibilities include supporting physical design, post-layout verification, and documenting technical results. Candidates should possess experience with Cadence tools, deep sub-micron CMOS design, and complex mixed-signal or digital IC designs. Preferred skills include knowledge of AI-accelerator architectures, chiplet-based system implementations, high-speed communications, Python, and hardware-software co-design. This work addresses technical challenges in AI acceleration, high-speed communications, and chiplet-based integration approaches within the integrated circuits domain.

What you'll do

  • Analyze architecture and system-level trade-offs using simulations and measured data from existing ICs.
  • Design and synthesize digital and mixed-signal circuit building blocks to meet specific requirements.
  • Perform co-simulation and verification of designed circuits and sub-systems.
  • Support physical design, synthesis, and post-layout verification processes.
  • Document design concepts, simulation results, and verification outcomes.
  • Develop innovative integrated circuits using deep submicron CMOS technologies.

What we're looking for

  • Master's Degree (preferred)
  • Experience with industry-standard IC-development tools such as Cadence
  • Experience with design using deep-submicron CMOS technologies
  • Track record of success in completing complex mixed-signal and/or digital IC designs
  • Ability to successfully create and communicate technical ideas
  • Knowledge of AI-accelerator architectures (preferred)
  • Knowledge of chiplet-based system implementation and communication interfaces (preferred)
