JOB TITLE: Data Science: PhD Internship Opportunities - Redmond
This internship offers a role for a student currently pursuing a Doctorate Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, or Computer Science. You will formulate algorithmic approaches to solve problems by incorporating product functionality and customer perspectives. Daily responsibilities include using data exploration techniques to discover new opportunities, interpreting results, validating approaches, and monitoring performance to improve outcomes. You will engage with stakeholders to produce actionable insights that influence product and service improvements. Required skills include proficiency in Python, Perl, or C# and experience with SQL, Hadoop, Excel, R, MATLAB, AMPL, or SAS. You should have experience with telemetry systems, A/B testing, and applying basic machine learning algorithms to data to solve specific technical problems.
Formulate approaches to solve problems using well-defined algorithms and data sources.
Use data exploration techniques to discover new questions and opportunities within problem areas.
Interpret analysis results and validate approaches to continuously improve performance.
Produce clear, compelling, and actionable insights to influence product and service improvements.
Participate in the peer review process and incorporate feedback into your work.
Learn and apply innovative methods, algorithms, and tools to increase the impact of results.
Apply basic machine learning and algorithms to conduct experiments on various data types.
What we're looking for
Currently pursuing a Doctorate Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or a related field.
Must have at least one additional quarter/semester of school remaining following the completion of the internship.
Must have been enrolled in a full-time bachelor's, masters, MBA, or PhD program in a relevant area during the academic term immediately before the internship.
Experience or project coursework using large data systems on SQL, Hadoop, etc.
Proficiency using one or more programming or scripting languages to work with data such as Python, Perl, or C#.
Experience or project coursework performing data analysis and applying statistics using tools such as Excel, R, MATLAB, AMPL, or SAS.
Experience or project coursework with product and service telemetry systems.
Experience or coursework applying basic ML to data or using algorithms to conduct experiments on data (preferred).
