TL;DR · Data Center Design Engineer

The Data Center Design Engineer joins the Data Center Strategy team within the global Infrastructure group. In this role, you will lead electrical design and end-to-end execution for new sites, expansions, and infrastructure upgrades supporting compute, storage, and high-density liquid-cooled GPU deployments. You will translate capacity requirements into actionable rack plans, design low voltage structured cabling, and oversee staged commissioning and integrated systems testing. Key responsibilities include reviewing one-line diagrams, performing electrical short-circuit and arc flash studies, and managing external vendors as the owner's representative. You will utilize skills in HVAC, chilled water systems, and power distribution topologies. The role solves the technical challenge of designing resilient, high-density infrastructure and modular construction strategies to optimize cost efficiency and accelerate time-to-market for global data center footprints.

What you'll do

  • Lead electrical design and end-to-end execution for new data center sites, expansions, and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Translate capacity requirements into actionable white space designs and rack plans within contract constraints.
  • Design low voltage structured cabling, fiber, cross-connects, and conveyance infrastructure for data center floors and ceilings.
  • Define electrical interfaces and requirements for direct-to-chip liquid cooling and heat-rejection equipment.
  • Perform electrical short-circuit, coordination, arc flash, and load flow engineering studies to ensure system reliability.
  • Oversee technical acceptance of staged commissioning, integrated systems testing, and deficiency closure for infrastructure projects.
  • Serve as the owner's representative to define design criteria, scopes, and acceptance requirements for external vendors and contractors.
  • Develop and execute modular and prefabricated data center construction strategies to optimize cost and speed to market.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience plus 5+ years of experience in data center mechanical and electrical design and operations.
  • P.E. certification or equivalent (preferred).
  • Experience in HVAC, Chilled Water Systems, Pump controls, AHU units, CRAH, and Building Management Systems.
  • Understanding of basic electrical theory, circuit design, and single- and three-phase power systems.
  • Familiarity with Data Center M&E infrastructure design, electrical/UPS topologies, and Uptime Institute Tier Classifications.
  • Experience acting as an owner's technical representative governing external delivery partners and reviewing third-party designs.
  • Expertise in medium- and low-voltage distribution, including transformers, generators, UPS systems, switchgear, and rack-level power architectures.
  • Export control laws, including the U.S. Export Administration Regulations.
