The Data and Applied AI Engineer joins the Apple Services Engineering team to build distributed large-scale data processing systems and platforms. Working closely with the Apple TV and Video teams, you will design and implement data solutions to support business needs for Apple TV and Sports products. Your daily responsibilities include developing large-scale data pipelines, creating backend services using microservices architecture, and leveraging AI to develop agents for automating routine work. You will translate cross-functional requirements into engineering tasks while ensuring all systems comply with strict privacy policies. The role requires proficiency in Java or Scala, big data technologies, and experience developing LLM-powered applications. You must be able to build scalable, highly available systems that provide consistent results for petabyte-scale data analytics.

What you'll do

Design and build scalable, highly available distributed systems for large-scale data processing and analytics.
Develop and maintain backend services using microservices architecture and big data technologies.
Leverage AI to develop agents that automate routine work and provide new capabilities for stakeholders.
Translate cross-functional requirements into practical engineering tasks and detailed architecture documentation.
Build and enhance data platforms specifically to support Apple TV and Sports products.
Ensure all data systems and solutions comply with Apple’s privacy policy and security standards.
Write clean, efficient code to maintain and improve the quality of complex software systems.

What we're looking for

3+ years of programming experience in Java or Scala.
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or an equivalent technical discipline.
Experience working with large-scale distributed data processing technologies and developing AI agents.
Experience working with big data and distributed systems.
Experience developing microservices and REST APIs.
Experience working with LLMs and developing AI agents.
Ability to design and build LLM-powered applications and intelligent agents at scale.
Good understanding of software engineering principles, including algorithms and data structures (preferred).
