As a Data and Applied AI Engineer within the Apple Services Engineering team, you will join a small group focused on building distributed large-scale data processing systems and backend services. You will partner with Apple TV and Video teams to design and implement data platforms that support business needs for Apple TV and Sports products. Your daily work involves developing microservices, creating scalable data pipelines, and leveraging AI to build agents that automate routine tasks and provide new capabilities for stakeholders. To succeed in this role, you must possess expertise in Java or Scala, big data technologies, and the development of LLM-powered applications. You will be responsible for translating cross-functional requirements into technical tasks while ensuring all systems strictly adhere to privacy policies while processing petabyte-scale data to provide consistent results for internal partners.

What you'll do

Design and build scalable, highly available distributed systems for large-scale data processing and analytics.
Develop backend services using microservices architecture and big data technologies.

Partner with TV and Video teams to develop data platforms for Apple TV and Sports products.
Translate cross-functional requirements into practical engineering tasks and technical specifications.
Create detailed architecture and design documentation to guide the development of robust systems.
Ensure all data systems and solutions comply with strict corporate privacy policies.
Write clean, efficient code while maintaining high standards for software quality and system complexity.

What we're looking for

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
3+ years of programming experience in Java or Scala.
Experience working with big data and distributed systems at scale.
Experience developing microservices and REST APIs.
Experience working with LLMs and developing AI agents.
Ability to design and build LLM-powered applications and intelligent agents at scale.
Strong understanding of software engineering principles, including algorithms and data structures.
Ability to translate cross-functional requirements into practical engineering tasks and create architecture documentation.
