The Cloud Operations Engineer joins the Cloud Operations Engineering team to ensure the operational success of MongoDB Atlas, a multi-cloud database-as-a-service. In this role, you will build internal tools, automate routine monitoring and troubleshooting tasks, and design systems to reduce Mean Time to Resolve for customer incidents. Day-to-day responsibilities include monitoring alert dashboards, reviewing system logs, performing server administration, and diagnosing live incidents to differentiate between platform and usage issues. You will coordinate with a global team to maintain uptime guarantees and participate in a weekly on-call rotation. Required expertise includes Linux system administration, networking, and database operations. You must be proficient in web technologies, cloud platforms like AWS, GCP, or Azure, and possess skills in at least two of the following languages: Java, Go, Python, or Javascript.

What you'll do

  • Design and build internal tools and process automation to scale the Cloud Operations Engineering team.
  • Monitor and detect emerging customer-facing incidents on the Atlas platform for proactive resolution.
  • Diagnose live incidents to differentiate between platform issues and usage issues while taking steps toward resolution.
  • Automate internal processes, routine monitoring, and troubleshooting tasks.
  • Perform server administration duties including performance troubleshooting and reviewing critical system logs.
  • Participate in a weekly on-call rotation to handle short-term customer incidents and outages.
  • Identify areas for improvement in management applications by cooperating with product and cloud engineering organizations.
  • Create and monitor systems alert dashboards to ensure uptime guarantees for the Atlas customer base.

What we're looking for

  • Experience as an on-call DevOps, SRE, or Cloud Operations engineer.
  • Expertise in Linux system administration and networking technologies.
  • Knowledge of database operations and concepts.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of web and internet technologies.
  • Familiarity with Amazon Web Services and other cloud infrastructure platforms like GCP or Azure.
  • Experience in monitoring, system performance data collection, analysis, and reporting.
  • Capability to write programs or scripts to solve short-term and long-term strategic objectives.
  • A CS/CE degree or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in at least 2 of the following programming languages: Java, Go, Python, or Javascript.
