Staff Software Engineer, Financial Platform - Issuing

What you'll do

• Interpret card network specifications and manage certification requirements to ensure seamless transaction processing.
• Resolve complex technical issues at the network boundary involving multiple systems and domains.
• Write production code and build tools for certification, conformance, and message-level debugging.
• Negotiate directly with card networks to influence requirements and resolve operational ambiguities.
• Develop shared frameworks and standards to make specialized network knowledge accessible to other engineers.
• Lead technical design reviews and provide mentorship to improve the team's engineering capabilities.
• Manage end-to-end certification cycles and translate complex mandates into actionable engineering decisions.
• Participate in on-call rotations to ensure the reliability of critical financial systems.

What we're looking for

• Deep expertise in at least one major card network, ideally Visa, including ISO 8583, authorization, clearing flows, and certification.
• Experience building or operating a live direct network connection rather than just integrating through a processor.
• Proven experience working directly with card networks to secure outcomes like rulings, exceptions, and configuration changes.
• Strong hands-on software engineering experience building and operating highly reliable financial or payments systems at scale.
• Track record of leading complex, ambiguous technical work across team boundaries and influencing broader technical direction.
• Experience creating durable technical leverage such as frameworks, standards, tooling, or architecture adopted by other teams.
• Broad understanding of the card lifecycle including issuance, fulfillment, provisioning, activation, ledgering, clearing, settlement, and disputes.
• Working knowledge of Mastercard and American Express (preferred).
