The Camera and Photos - Image Quality Engineer joins the Image Quality & Qualification team to test and evaluate the full camera system. This role involves designing, building, and conducting analysis of both objective and subjective image quality investigations while developing custom automation solutions for the imaging lab. The engineer will design custom tests for novel features, algorithms, or hardware solutions to influence decisions across cross-functional teams. Key technical requirements include proficiency in Bash, Python, MATLAB, Swift, or C++, along with experience building automation systems using coding models like Opus, Gemini, GPT, and tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor. The role requires knowledge of imaging algorithms, pipelines, 3A algorithm design, ISO standard metrics, psychophysics, and photography terminology to solve complex problems regarding mobile camera system performance and image quality.
Design and conduct objective and subjective camera image quality investigations.
Develop custom automation solutions for the Camera Imaging lab environment.
Create custom lab tests for new features, algorithms, and hardware solutions.
Analyze test results to influence major decisions across cross-functional camera teams.
Build automation systems using coding models and various programming languages like Python or C++.
Evaluate image quality based on ISO standard metrics and photography principles.
Debug mobile camera systems and evaluate imaging pipelines.
What we're looking for
BS degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Imaging Science, or a related field.
Real world experience building automation systems with coding models and coding harnesses.
Expertise in at least one of Bash, Python, MATLAB, Swift, or C++.
Technical familiarity with imaging algorithms and pipelines.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with experience in cross-functional collaboration.
Working knowledge of photography and camera terminology.
Familiarity with ISO standard Image Quality Metrics and their associated charts.
Deep expertise in camera image quality metrics on consumer devices, psychophysics, mobile camera debugging, 3A algorithm design, or photography (preferred).
