TL;DR · Mission Systems Data Architect

C2 Mission Systems Data Architect joins the battle management team to lead the design of data architecture solutions for next-generation Command and Control systems. This role involves modeling mission data from concept to physical implementation, establishing master data management and governance, and defining a cohesive data strategy that integrates various mission systems into an interoperable foundation. The architect will resolve technical issues with business analysts and technology teams while ensuring requirements are met during the development of cloud solution components. Key technologies and methodologies include AWS, data fabric, data mesh, DoDAF standards, and potentially Kafka, Kinesis, or Flink for real-time streaming. The role focuses on transforming sensor feeds and enterprise stores into trusted data for warfighters by addressing complex interoperability challenges within a defense context. Candidates must possess a Secret clearance and extensive experience in enterprise data modeling.

What you'll do

  • Design data architecture solutions for modeling, governing, and moving mission data across Command and Control systems.
  • Create an interoperable data foundation by integrating sensor feeds, mission systems, and enterprise stores.
  • Develop data fabric and mesh architectures to connect various mission systems.
  • Establish master data management (MDM) and governance practices for the organization.
  • Define a comprehensive data strategy that integrates multiple mission systems into a unified framework.
  • Architect cloud-based solutions on AWS while ensuring alignment with DoDAF and interoperability standards.
  • Lead the team in designing, developing, and testing cloud solution components.
  • Serve as a liaison between clients and developers to ensure technical requirements are met.

What we're looking for

  • Secret clearance is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in CS, Engineering, or Data Science and 10+ years of experience with data architecture or engineering, or 14+ years without a degree.
  • Experience in enterprise data modeling from conceptual through logical to physical design.
  • Experience designing data fabric or data mesh architectures across multiple mission systems.
  • Experience establishing master data management (MDM) and data governance practices.
  • Experience applying DoDAF data-centric views and interoperability standards to system-of-systems designs.
  • Experience with cloud data architecture on AWS, including data governance and security.
  • Ability to translate mission requirements into scalable, interoperable, and trusted data designs.
  • Experience with C2, ISR, or sensor data (preferred).
  • Experience designing real-time and streaming data architectures such as Kafka, Kinesis, or Flink (preferred).
  • Experience with data cataloging, lineage, and metadata management tooling (preferred).
  • Experience with DataOps, data pipeline automation, and CI/CD for data (preferred).
  • Master's degree (preferred).
  • Security+ CE or similar DoD 8570 IAT Level II Certification (preferred).
  • TOGAF or similar Certification (preferred).
  • AWS Certification such as Solutions Architect, Data Analytics, or Database Certification (preferred).
