The Spacecraft Hardware Development Specialist, Amazon Leo DevOps joins the Development Operations team to build and maintain the hardware infrastructure necessary for satellite design, prototyping, and testing. This R&D focused role involves taking hardware from concept to production by partnering with design engineers to iterate, optimize manufacturability, and qualify components for space. Daily responsibilities include mechanical and electrical assembly of spacecraft mechanisms, troubleshooting hardware issues, and developing custom automation equipment. The specialist will also manage lab spaces, track equipment calibrations, and maintain detailed build notes. Required skills include proficiency with oscilloscopes and frequency analyzers, knowledge of aerospace quality standards, and experience with precision mechanical and electrical fabrication. The role solves technical challenges in the development of low Earth orbit satellite networks for reliable internet connectivity.
Partner with design engineers to iterate hardware, optimize manufacturability, and qualify components for space.
Support hardware through the full development arc including prototyping, development builds, and rigorous qualification testing.
Perform mechanical and electrical assembly of various spacecraft mechanisms.
Troubleshoot hardware and test setup issues to identify and resolve root causes.
Engineer and adapt lab spaces and equipment to meet evolving customer needs and maintain calibration tracking.
Develop custom automation equipment and fixtures to support test and build requirements.
Maintain clear work documentation, including detailed build notes and test records.
What we're looking for
Must be a U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, refugee, or granted asylum.
Associate's degree or equivalent relevant experience in Electronics, Mechanics, Product Design, Manufacturing Technologies, or another STEM discipline.
4+ years of experience in a Space/Aerospace/Military/Precision fabrication/Test environment.
1+ year of experience working with precision mechanical and electrical fabrication/testing.
Knowledge of tools and measurement devices such as oscilloscopes or frequency analyzers.
Ability to lift up to 49 pounds, stand/walk for 12 hours, and work at heights above 6 feet.
Experience in an R&D/development/Test role (preferred).
