JOB TITLE: Autonomy Engineering Specialist - MineStar Onboard The Autonomy Engineering Specialist serves as the technical authority for MineStar Onboard, the software providing autonomy, productivity, and safety for mining machines. Working within a collaborative SAFe environment, this role bridges site-level system designs and product team architectures. Key responsibilities include decomposing L8 site systems into onboard subsystem architectures, defining testable requirements, and maintaining traceability from site needs through verification. The specialist manages interfaces for geospatial data and secure communications using technologies like VPN, MQTT, and Linux-based platforms. Candidates must possess systems engineering expertise, knowledge of robotics or machine control, and experience with software development life cycles. The role involves evaluating artificial intelligence, performing trade studies, and ensuring functional safety for complex, software-intensive mining equipment and distributed systems.

What you'll do

  • Serve as the technical authority for MineStar Onboard architecture, functionality, and technical roadmap.
  • Decompose L8 site systems designs into Onboard system architectures and requirements for product teams.
  • Write clear, testable requirements and maintain traceability from site-level needs through to verification.
  • Lead design reviews, evaluate architecture trade-offs, and estimate costs and effort for proposed designs.
  • Define architectures and requirements for geospatial data and secure communications between machines and cloud services.
  • Participate in test reviews, analysis, and certification to ensure software meets site systems design intent.
  • Perform trade studies and change-impact analysis to identify and mitigate system-level risks.
  • Provide technical guidance on feasibility, configuration, and deployment for site solutions and escalated issues.

What we're looking for

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in systems engineering or systems and software development for complex, software-intensive systems.
  • Experience with the architecture and design of major products, including converting requirements into designs and analyzing trade-offs.
  • Working knowledge of autonomy, robotics, machine control systems, and embedded onboard software.
  • Knowledge of structured product development methods and experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Knowledge of verification and validation to review test plans and results against requirements.
  • Degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum, or equivalent.
  • Experience in autonomy, robotics, or machine control and automation product development programs (preferred).
  • Experience with mining, heavy machinery, or construction equipment and supporting customer-site deployments (preferred).
