TL;DR · Autonomous Vehicle Safety Assurance Technical Program Manager

The Autonomous Vehicle Safety Assurance Technical Program Manager joins the SAFE-ADS department to lead integrated execution across complex workstreams including safety risk management, human factors, software validation, and rules-of-the-road compliance. This role involves translating operating-plan objectives into actionable roadmaps, managing technical dependencies, and driving decisions across engineering, legal, and product teams. You will manage program milestones, track risks, and improve workflows using tools like Jira, Jira Align, Confluence, SharePoint, and Smartsheet. The position also requires utilizing requirements management systems such as IBM DOORS Next Generation or Jama Connect to ensure end-to-end traceability. The role focuses on the critical domain of safety-critical software for automated driving systems, specifically addressing technical challenges in SOTIF, functional safety, and the development of safe, reliable autonomous vehicle technologies through rigorous validation and evidence-based assurance programs.

What you'll do

  • Translate high-level operating plan objectives into actionable roadmaps, workstream charters, and detailed delivery plans.
  • Manage technical dependencies, risks, and resource requirements across engineering, validation, data, and legal teams.
  • Establish governance structures including status reporting, action tracking, decision logs, and escalation paths.
  • Drive risk mitigation and recovery plans by providing decision-ready recommendations for schedule or technical issues.
  • Coordinate safety assurance activities including human factors studies, safety metrics, and rules-of-the-road compliance.
  • Maintain end-to-end traceability between requirements, test results, evidence, and program milestones using tools like Jira and DOORS.
  • Improve internal workflows, dashboards, and data quality across various project management and requirement tracking systems.
  • Communicate complex technical trade-offs and impact assessments to both technical teams and executive leadership.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer science, systems engineering, robotics, safety engineering, mathematics, or a related technical field.
  • 7+ years of experience leading complex technical programs in autonomous vehicles, ADAS, software-intensive systems, or other safety-critical domains.
  • At least 3 years of experience in technical program management, engineering program management, software delivery, or systems engineering leadership.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional programs with multiple workstreams and enterprise-level visibility.
  • Proficiency in program management including roadmap planning, risk management, governance, and executive communication.
  • Experience with software development lifecycles, validation, test/verification activities, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Working knowledge of requirements management, end-to-end traceability, configuration management, and assessment processes.
  • Hands-on experience with Jira and familiarity with tools like IBM DOORS Next Generation or Jama Connect (preferred).
