Associate, Financial Platform Engineer The Associate, Financial Platform Engineer joins the BlackRock Index Services team to develop the next generation of Equity, Fixed Income, and Multi-Asset index calculation, simulation, and delivery platforms. This role involves all aspects of software development, testing, and support while refactoring existing code to align with modern architectural patterns. The engineer will convert high-level architecture into component designs and high-quality software while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative indices. Key technologies include the Java stack (Spring, JDBC, Hibernate, JBoss, Maven, Jenkins, JUnit), Python with libraries like pandas and numpy, and SQL/NoSQL databases such as Oracle or Snowflake. Additional skills include experience with RESTful Webservices, gRPC, cloud-native development on Microsoft Azure, distributed computing via Apache Ignite, and front-end frameworks like Angular or React to solve complex financial data problems.

What you'll do

  • Develop, test, and support software for next-generation index calculation, simulation, and delivery platforms.
  • Convert high-level architectural designs into specific component designs and high-quality code.
  • Automate the complete software lifecycle including development, testing, deployment, and production operations.
  • Refactor existing code to align with modern technology stacks and architectural patterns.
  • Perform ad-hoc analyses and provide technical responses to support client inquiries.
  • Build scalable, performant, and maintainable enterprise software using Java, Spring, and other modern technologies.
  • Develop ETL solutions and RESTful web services for financial data processing.

What we're looking for

  • B.S./MS or equivalent in a STEM subject area.
  • 4 to 8 years of experience in Enterprise Software Development.
  • Strong experience with Java technology stack including Spring, JDBC, Hibernate, JBoss, Maven, Jenkins, and JUnit.
  • Strong development skills in Core and Enterprise Java using multi-threading and networking frameworks.
  • Solid understanding of Data Structures, Algorithms, and Object Oriented Design Patterns.
  • Proficiency in Unix/Linux infrastructure and experience working in an agile environment with Git, JIRA, and Azure Pipelines.
  • Python experience with knowledge of pandas, numpy, scipy, and cvxpy (preferred).
  • Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases, cloud native development, distributed computing, or modern JavaScript frameworks (preferred).
