TL;DR · Associate Director, Biopharmaceutics

The Associate Director, Biopharmaceutics leads a team of scientists within the Molecular Profiling and Drug Delivery function to advance diverse pipelines including small molecules, peptides, and genetic medicines. This role involves developing in vitro dissolution tools, high-throughput screening assays, and PBPK modeling to support developability assessments from discovery through clinical stages. The individual will manage cross-functional collaborations with Discovery, DMPK, Clinical Pharmacology, and Regulatory teams to align biopharmaceutics strategies with program goals. Key responsibilities include interpreting data to guide formulation decisions, identifying solutions for in vivo absorption challenges, and establishing structure-property-performance correlations. Required expertise includes solubility, biorelevant dissolution testing, permeability, and peptide aggregation. The role requires proficiency in solid-state chemistry and automation to ensure successful regulatory submissions while mentoring team members and providing scientific leadership across multiple therapeutic modalities and delivery routes.

What you'll do

  • Lead a team of scientists to develop in vitro dissolution tools, in silico modeling, and high-throughput screening assays.
  • Develop and implement biopharmaceutics strategies for small molecules, peptides, and genetic medicines across discovery and development stages.
  • Advance PBPK modeling and deploy new in silico tools to improve developability assessments and inform decision-making.
  • Identify solutions for in vivo absorption challenges and advance novel drug delivery strategies across multiple routes of administration.
  • Provide expert guidance on biopharmaceutics data interpretation to guide formulation decisions and risk assessments.
  • Oversee the transition of drug substance isolation processes and characterization methods to commercial manufacturing sites.
  • Mentor and train functional colleagues while promoting scientific innovation and operational excellence.
  • Present complex scientific concepts regarding biopharmaceutics and automation to both scientific and non-scientific leadership.

What we're looking for

  • A Bachelor's degree with 16 years of experience, a Master's with 14 years, or a PhD with 8 years of related work experience is required.
  • Preferred educational backgrounds include Biopharmaceutical Sciences, Physical Chemistry, Chemical Biology, Material Sciences, Chemical Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering.
  • Extensive experience in biopharmaceutics research regarding drug absorption across routes of administration is required.
  • Experience must include solubility, biorelevant dissolution testing, permeability, ex vivo permeability assessment, and peptide aggregation.
  • Knowledge of preclinical and clinical formulation development principles for chemically synthesized molecules across various routes of administration is required.
  • Strong communication skills to communicate complex theories, influence others without authority, and drive technical excellence are required.
  • Excellent self-management, organizational skills, and attention to detail are required.
