TL;DR · AR/VR Design Validation Engineer

AR/VR Design Validation Engineer The AR/VR Design Validation Engineer joins the hardware team to bridge design, testing, and manufacturing by ensuring optical simulation models accurately predict real-world performance for next-generation display components. You will own end-to-end optical models, develop simulation capabilities, and close the feedback loop between simulation and measurement using real build data. Responsibilities include defining characterization pipelines, building plans, and data architecture to translate technical findings into actionable design guidance. You will perform failure mode analysis, root-cause diagnosis, and define performance metrics for high-volume manufacturing. Required skills include proficiency in optical simulation tools like LightTools, FDTD, RCWA, Zemax, or Code V; experience with measurement systems such as spectrometers and microscopes; and statistical data analysis using JMP, Matlab, or Python. The role focuses on the technical challenge of validating complex optical display technologies and components.

What you'll do

  • Validate end-to-end optical designs for next-generation display components.
  • Develop and validate optical simulation capabilities by closing the feedback loop with real build data.
  • Define characterization pipelines, build plans, and data architectures to track design-to-performance metrics.
  • Establish performance specifications to ensure component reliability in high-volume manufacturing.
  • Conduct failure mode analysis and root-cause diagnosis for critical optical component issues.
  • Translate technical findings into actionable design guidance and improved predictive simulation capabilities.
  • Communicate complex analytical results and reports to cross-functional product, manufacturing, and integration teams.

What we're looking for

  • BS in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field with 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Master's or PhD in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Proven track record correlating optical simulations with measured hardware performance in industry or R&D settings.
  • Proficiency with at least one optical simulation tool such as LightTools, FDTD, RCWA, Zemax, or Code V.
  • Hands-on experience in at least two areas: optical design/metrology, display technologies, optical sensors, thin-film processes, or nanofabrication.
  • Working knowledge of optical measurement systems including light sources, microscopes, spectrometers, detectors, and free-space optics.
  • Statistical data analysis capabilities using tools such as JMP, Matlab, or Python.
  • Experience with diffractive optics, waveguide design, or consumer optical product development.
