Applied AI Scientist, Multimodal Intelligence

What you'll do

• Develop and implement multimodal foundation models for generative AI and computer vision.
• Evaluate and adapt emerging research into practical, robust solutions for Apple products.
• Conduct applied research experiments to bridge the gap between academic research and production.
• Manage large-scale data pipelines including curation, preprocessing, and efficient storage.
• Fine-tune and optimize large models specifically for production deployment and hardware constraints.
• Develop autonomous or semi-autonomous agents using multi-step reasoning and task decomposition.
• Implement privacy-preserving and on-device machine learning techniques.
• Prototype and validate research ideas to meet future hardware design and product needs.

What we're looking for

• Experience in deep learning with demonstrated work in at least one area of multimodal systems like vision, language, or video.
• Proficiency in Python and a modern deep learning framework such as PyTorch or JAX.
• Experience with rapid prototyping, reproduction, and validation of research ideas.
• MS in Computer Science, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
• PhD or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related technical field.
• Demonstrated expertise via a publication record in relevant conferences or a track record of applying deep learning to real-world products.
• Experience with foundation models, large-scale data pipelines, and fine-tuning or optimizing large models for production deployment.
