Applied AI Scientist

What you'll do

• Evaluate and adapt emerging research in generative AI and multimodal foundation models.
• Conduct applied research experiments to bridge the gap between research advances and practical applications.
• Work with engineering teams to transform promising research approaches into robust production solutions.
• Design and develop multimodal foundation models for future Apple products and hardware.
• Manage large-scale data pipelines including data collection, curation, and preprocessing.
• Fine-tune and optimize large models for efficient production deployment.
• Develop autonomous or semi-autonomous agents using multi-step reasoning and task decomposition.
• Implement privacy-preserving or on-device machine learning techniques.

What we're looking for

• MS in Computer Science, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, or a related technical field.
• Minimum of 6 years of relevant experience.
• Experience in deep learning with demonstrated work in at least one area of multimodal systems.
• Proficiency in Python and a modern deep learning framework such as PyTorch or JAX.
• Experience with rapid prototyping, reproduction, and validation of research ideas.
• PhD or equivalent practical experience in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or a related technical field (preferred).
• Demonstrated expertise in deep learning via a publication record or a track record of applying techniques to real-world products (preferred).
• Experience with foundation models, large-scale data pipelines, and production model optimization (preferred).
