Application Software Engineer, Applied AI

What you'll do

• Develop reliable software solutions and AI-powered applications to accelerate production, flight, and Starlink operations.
• Create new applications incorporating large language models, agentic systems, and other modern AI capabilities.
• Own the full lifecycle of AI systems from initial prototype through design, evaluation, deployment, and production monitoring.
• Identify high-leverage AI opportunities by performing deep dives into specific user problems.
• Architect production systems for agentic workflows, multi-agent orchestration, advanced retrieval, and long-context applications.
• Build and maintain rigorous evaluation frameworks and production observability for AI quality, safety, latency, and cost.
• Incorporate emerging LLM techniques and best practices into production systems across various SpaceX programs.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or scientific discipline; OR 2+ years of professional software experience.
• 1+ years of experience in full stack development.
• Hands-on experience evaluating, deploying, and integrating AI models into production systems (preferred).
• Proven track record of delivering end-to-end AI products or production AI-powered features (preferred).
• Deep hands-on experience with modern LLM techniques including agentic systems, tool-use, and multi-agent orchestration (preferred).
• Experience building production evaluation systems and AI observability/monitoring (preferred).
• Programming experience in Python, C#.NET, Go, Scala, Java, or similar (preferred).
• Must be a U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or eligible for required Department of State authorizations.
