As an Application Software Engineer, Applied AI, you will join the Application Software team to design, evaluate, deploy, and integrate modern AI systems into mission-critical infrastructure. You will own the end-to-end lifecycle of AI capabilities from prototype to production, specifically building applications that incorporate large language models and agentic systems to accelerate launch vehicle production, flight operations, and Starlink services. The role requires proficiency in Python, C#.NET, Go, Scala, or Java, alongside experience with Docker, Kubernetes, Kafka, and front-end frameworks like Angular or React. You will solve complex technical problems to create reliable software solutions that improve operational efficiency across various aerospace and satellite programs.

What you'll do

Develop reliable software solutions that integrate large language models and agentic systems into production environments.
Manage the full lifecycle of AI capabilities from initial prototype through deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
Architect production systems for multi-agent orchestration, tool-use, advanced retrieval, and long-context applications.
Build and maintain rigorous evaluation frameworks including LLM-as-judge, automated benchmarks, and performance monitoring.
Identify high-leverage AI opportunities by analyzing user problems to deliver efficient, production-grade solutions.
Monitor AI systems for quality, safety, latency, and cost metrics in real-time.
Incorporate emerging best practices and frontier LLM techniques into existing SpaceX programs.

What we're looking for

Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or a scientific discipline, or 2+ years of professional software experience.
At least 1 year of experience in full stack development.
Experience evaluating, deploying, and integrating AI models into production systems.
Proven track record of delivering end-to-end AI products from prototype to production deployment.
Deep hands-on experience with LLM techniques including agentic systems, tool-use, multi-agent orchestration, and advanced retrieval.
Experience building production evaluation frameworks and monitoring for AI quality, safety, latency, and cost.
Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C#.NET, Go, Scala, or Java.
Must be a U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, or eligible for required export control authorizations.
