Application Software Engineer, Applied AI

What you'll do

• Develop reliable software solutions and AI-powered applications to accelerate production, flight, and Starlink operations.
• Design, evaluate, deploy, and monitor the full lifecycle of AI systems from prototype to production.
• Architect production systems for agentic workflows, multi-agent orchestration, and advanced retrieval architectures.
• Build and maintain rigorous evaluation frameworks including LLM-as-judge, automated benchmarks, and production observability.
• Identify high-leverage AI opportunities by performing deep dives into specific user problems.
• Incorporate emerging LLM techniques and best practices into production systems across SpaceX programs.
• Write clean, maintainable code to build production-grade AI features and system-to-system architectures.

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or scientific discipline; OR 2+ years of professional software experience.
• 1+ years of experience in full stack development.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, asylee, or eligible for required Department of State authorizations.
• Programming experience in Python, C#.NET, Go, Scala, Java, or similar (preferred).
• Hands-on experience evaluating, deploying, and integrating AI models into production systems (preferred).
• Proven track record of shipping real-world AI products from prototype through production deployment (preferred).
• Deep experience with agentic systems, tool-use, multi-agent orchestration, and advanced retrieval architectures (preferred).
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, modern data streaming, and front-end/database technologies (preferred).
