TL;DR · Engineering Intern

2027 Summer Internships - Engineering interns join various engineering departments to manage initiatives supporting the technical design, evaluation, and construction of commercial and utility-scale power infrastructure projects. Depending on the specific team assignment, responsibilities include evaluating project constraints, designing optimal layouts, analyzing meteorological datasets, modeling energy production, and conducting site visits for suitability and due diligence. Interns may also participate in landowner meetings, community outreach, and construction meetings while collaborating with cross-functional teams to support permitting and procurement. The role requires proficiency in tools such as GIS software, CAD, QGIS, Visio, PVSyst, and System Advisory Model (SAM). Candidates will work on diverse projects involving wind renewable engineering, solar renewable engineering, battery energy storage systems, and long-distance transmission lines to improve grid reliability and expand the reach of low-cost renewable energy.

What you'll do

  • Manage initiatives supporting the technical design, evaluation, and construction of commercial and utility-scale power projects.
  • Evaluate project constraints and design optimal layouts using GIS software to maximize project value.
  • Analyze meteorological datasets and site measurements to establish long-term resource characteristics for wind and solar sites.
  • Model expected energy production and key metrics using specialized performance modeling software like PVSyst or SAM.
  • Conduct site visits to support evaluation, suitability, due diligence, and turbine micro-siting.
  • Coordinate with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) to optimize equipment selection based on technical specifications and market trends.
  • Support permitting efforts at federal, state, and local levels while collaborating with cross-functional project teams.
  • Analyze real-time operational data for active plants to identify equipment underperformance and develop troubleshooting procedures.

What we're looking for

  • Must be currently enrolled in a 4-year Bachelor’s degree program.
  • Expected graduation date must be between Fall 2027 and Summer 2028.
  • Major must be in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil) or a related engineering discipline.
