About the position
You will act as a key subject-matter expert supporting Klarna’s US AML and Financial Crime operations, combining hands-on investigative work with process development and optimization. In this position, you will maintain and improve operational frameworks, ensuring alignment with US regulatory requirements while identifying opportunities to strengthen controls and monitoring capabilities. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Compliance, Product, and MLRO functions, to embed effective financial crime prevention measures into new and existing products. Who you are
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Law, Business, Journalism, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• 4+ years of experience in AML or Financial Crime investigations or subject-matter expert positions within fintech, banking, or payments
• Strong understanding of US regulatory frameworks including BSA, FinCEN guidance, SAR processes, and MLRO responsibilities
• Proven experience maintaining and improving AML or Financial Crime processes, documentation, and operational controls
• Solid analytical skills with the ability to assess large datasets and identify suspicious activity patterns
• Experience working with transaction monitoring, screening tools, and case management systems
• Strong communication skills with the ability to guide stakeholders and support operational teams

About the position

We’re looking for an AML / FinCrime Ops Process Management Expert who combines hands-on investigative skills with deep  AML / FinCrime process support. About the position

In this position, you will strengthen Klarna’s financial crime controls by providing independent, risk-based oversight of the Anti-Money Laundering framework within Second Line Compliance. What you will do

What you will do

• Data Classification & Protection : Oversee and challenge how sensitive and critical data is identified, classified, and managed; ensure controls are consistently applied.
• Data Retention & Compliance: Assess and monitor data retention and deletion practices for compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and the UK Data Protection Act.
• Secure Data Sharing: Review internal and third-party data-sharing practices; ensure transfer controls meet industry best practices and regulatory standards.
• Reporting & Analytics Governance:Oversee reporting and analytics governance to maintain data integrity, privacy, and accuracy, working with business and technology teams.
• Policy Review & Development: Develop, review, and enhance data governance, classification, and privacy policies; advise on best practices and emerging regulatory requirements.
• Risk & Control Assessment:Conduct risk assessments and deep dives on data-related processes; provide independent challenge and recommendations to 1st line functions.
• Training & Awareness: Contribute to staff training and awareness on data privacy, classification, and safe handling.

Who you are

• Advanced degree in Information Management, Data Science, Law, Risk Management, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• 7–10 years’ experience in data governance, data protection, or information risk, preferably in fintech or financial services
• Strong working knowledge of data governance and protection regulations (e.g. GDPR, CCPA, UK Data Protection Act) and industry frameworks (such as BCBS 239)
• Proven experience with data classification, lifecycle management, and secure data-sharing practices
• Excellent analytical, problem solving, and communication skills
• Relevant professional certifications are highly valued (e.g. CISSP, CISM, CIPP/E, CDMP, CIPT, ISO 27001, or similar)
