As a Wireless Firmware Engineer (Starlink Mobile), you will join the Starlink Mobile team to provide global cellular connectivity from space. You will be responsible for developing novel wireless signal processing algorithms, implementing optimized software for satellites and ground stations, and debugging complex performance issues across the physical and MAC layers. The role requires proficiency in C/C++, Python, and Linux command line tools, along with experience in digital signal processing, software-defined radio, and forward error correction coding. You will solve interdisciplinary challenges by bridging the gap between wireless systems engineering and protocol firmware to advance wireless PHY development within a non-terrestrial network environment.

What you'll do

Design and implement physical layer (PHY) algorithms for satellite-based 4G/5G networks.
Develop optimized signal processing algorithms for use on resource-constrained CPUs.
Create models and run simulations to analyze and validate modem and system performance.
Design, implement, test, and document the wireless PHY and MAC layers of the protocol stack.
Identify and debug complex performance issues across the wireless PHY and MAC layers.
Contribute to architecture design, code reviews, and dimensioning for next-generation hardware.

What we're looking for

Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or a STEM discipline.
At least 1 year of experience in wireless signal processing, communications, modem systems, DSP, or physical layer processing.
At least 1 year of C/C++ coding experience.
Familiarity with 3GPP 4G/5G (LTE/NR) physical layer design or other modern broadband OFDM waveforms.
Experience in developing and optimizing complex signal processing algorithms in both fixed and floating point.
Familiarity with Linux command line, git-based version control, and Python programming.
Knowledge of forward error correction (FEC) coding concepts and MAC layer fundamentals.
Must be a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or eligible for required export control authorizations.
