The Windows Performance Engineer, Senior joins the software engineering team to drive analysis of complex system-level performance aspects for next-generation Windows on Snapdragon desktop devices. This role involves identifying and implementing software optimizations across multiple layers including the operating system, kernel, compiler, drivers, assembly language, and CPU microarchitecture. The engineer will develop and enhance analysis tools and instrumentation while collaborating with architects and partners to solve technical problems that impact product performance without increasing power consumption. Key technical requirements include proficiency in C, C++, Java, or Python, along with familiarity with ARM architecture, memory and bus architecture, and Windows Performance Analyzer tools. Candidates must be able to debug issues across hardware and software layers while optimizing for popular CPU benchmarks within the specific context of mobile-integrated desktop computing environments.
Analyze key software benchmarks and applications to identify specific performance optimization opportunities.
Implement software optimizations to meet performance criteria without negatively impacting power consumption.
Develop and enhance analysis tools and instrumentation to identify performance gaps.
Solve complex technical problems affecting significant areas of the product across hardware, OS, and drivers.
Define performance optimization strategies for Windows on Snapdragon desktop devices.
Manage and resolve ambiguous issues and requirements during the software development process.
What we're looking for
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field with 2+ years of experience, OR a Master's degree with 1+ year of experience, OR a PhD.
At least 2 years of academic or work experience with programming languages such as C, C++, Java, or Python.
Experience in C/C++ and ARM assembly (preferred).
Familiarity with C#, Java, Javascript, or Python (preferred).
Strong familiarity with ARM architecture and understanding of CPU, Memory, and Bus architecture (preferred).
Experience in performance characterization, software optimization techniques, and debugging across hardware, OS, compiler, and drivers (preferred).
Experience with Windows OS, Visual Studio/LLVM compiler, and Windows Performance Analyzer tools (preferred).
Experience in Compiler, JIT technologies, or optimizing for popular CPU software benchmarks (preferred).
