Undersea Systems Security Engineer
The Undersea Systems Security Engineer joins the team to provide cybersecurity and systems security analysis for U.S. Navy afloat and undersea platforms. This role involves designing, assessing, and implementing cybersecurity solutions throughout the system lifecycle, including integration, testing, operations, and sustainment. The engineer will evaluate vulnerabilities, perform security assessments, and develop risk mitigation plans aligned with DoD and Navy requirements. Day-to-day tasks include reviewing design artifacts to identify gaps, providing recommendations based on emerging risks, and creating technical reports for system accreditation. Key technical competencies include knowledge of network protocols such as TCP, IP, DHCP, DNS, LAN, WAN, bandwidth management, and directory services. The role focuses on the specific challenge of securing critical naval systems and ensuring resilient architectures against identified threats while adhering to RMF policies and Zero Trust implementation principles within a maritime environment.
Design and implement cybersecurity solutions across the entire system lifecycle including integration, testing, and maintenance.
Evaluate system vulnerabilities and perform security assessments aligned with DoD and Navy requirements.
Develop risk mitigation plans to address identified security gaps and threats.
Apply networking protocols and engineering principles to ensure secure system configurations.
Provide technical recommendations based on emerging risks and potential cyber threats.
Review design artifacts and conduct testing to ensure systems meet accreditation standards.
Produce technical reports, briefs, and documentation to support system certification and readiness.
What we're looking for
5+ years of experience in systems security engineering, cybersecurity, software engineering, or network security.
3+ years of experience in Navy acquisition or In-service programs.
Bachelor’s degree in CS or Engineering.
DoD IAT Level II Certification.
Knowledge of information security systems engineering principles, cybersecurity fundamentals, and DoD mission needs.
Knowledge of networking concepts including LAN, WAN, bandwidth management, network protocols, and directory services.
Experience with Navy afloat systems, RMF policies, Zero Trust implementation, or a Master’s degree (preferred); DoD IAT Level III Certification (preferred).
