As a Summer 2027 - IEF - Control Law Collegiate Associate Intern, you will join the Flight Dynamics and Control Law team to support the development, analysis, and testing of advanced aircraft control systems. You will work alongside experienced engineers to develop and validate flight control laws governing handling qualities, stability augmentation, autopilot functions, envelope protection, and fly-by-wire operations. Your daily responsibilities include mathematical modeling, simulation development, control law analysis, data analysis, and flight test support activities. To succeed in this role, you should possess skills in MATLAB, Simulink, and programming languages like Python or C/C++. You must also understand dynamic systems, feedback control principles, linear systems, and transfer functions. This position addresses the critical technical challenge of ensuring aircraft stability and performance through rigorous verification of flight control system requirements from concept to laboratory testing.

What you'll do

  • Develop and validate flight control laws for aircraft handling, stability, and autopilot functions.
  • Perform mathematical modeling and simulation development using MATLAB and Simulink.
  • Analyze aircraft performance and handling characteristics within simulation environments.
  • Conduct data analysis to evaluate flight control system requirements and results.
  • Support flight test activities and laboratory testing for advanced aircraft systems.
  • Verify flight control system requirements throughout the development process.

What we're looking for

  • Must be a full-time student pursuing a bachelor's degree or higher at the time of application.
  • Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (unrounded).
  • Must be proficient in reading, writing, speaking, and understanding the English language.
  • Major in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering is typical for this role.
  • MATLAB and Simulink modeling experience (preferred).
  • Programming experience in Python, MATLAB, C/C++, or similar technical languages (preferred).
  • Understanding of dynamic systems, feedback control principles, linear systems, and control system design concepts (preferred).
  • Experience with aircraft simulation, autonomous vehicles, robotics, or guidance and navigation projects is encouraged.
