TL;DR · Staff Supplier Quality Engineer, Thermal Components

Staff Supplier Quality Engineer - Thermal Components will join the Component Quality & Reliability team as a subject matter expert for thermal components and cooling solutions. This role involves managing quality and reliability from concept through end-of-life by partnering with global suppliers, engineering teams, and cross-functional stakeholders. The engineer will lead root cause investigations using 8D methodologies, conduct factory audits, define quality requirements, and monitor supplier KPIs to ensure manufacturability and performance. Key responsibilities include overseeing liquid cooling technologies such as cold plates, heat sinks, vapor chambers, pumps, manifolds, radiators, and thermal interface materials. Candidates should possess expertise in manufacturing processes, Six Sigma, process capability analysis, and measurement system analysis. The role addresses the technical challenge of ensuring high-performance computing components meet rigorous reliability standards while managing complex supplier relationships across a global matrix organization.

What you'll do

  • Serve as the primary quality interface for strategic suppliers of thermal components and cooling solutions.
  • Lead root cause analysis, containment actions, and 8D corrective actions for thermal component quality issues.
  • Develop quality and reliability requirements for liquid cooling hardware in partnership with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Conduct mass production readiness reviews, including supplier manufacturing assessments and on-site factory audits.
  • Define and monitor supplier quality KPIs throughout the product development and production ramp phases.
  • Ensure supplier manufacturing capabilities meet Design for Manufacturability (DFM) requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement in supplier outgoing DPPM performance, reliability, and process controls.
  • Evaluate supplier manufacturing processes and quality systems to ensure consistent product performance and manufacturability.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Extensive experience in Supplier Quality, Quality Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or Thermal Engineering for thermal components and liquid cooling systems.
  • Experience with specific hardware including cold plates, heat sinks, vapor chambers, TIMs, pumps, manifolds, radiators, and other thermal management technologies.
  • Proficiency in leading 8D investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, failure analysis, reliability testing, and Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Expertise in process capability analysis, measurement system analysis (GR&R, AR&R), cross-cavity validation, and process qualification.
  • Experience conducting supplier quality audits and developing process quality plans for thermal component manufacturing.
  • Proven ability to manage projects and influence technical decisions within a global matrix organization.
  • Willingness to travel internationally to supplier sites up to 25%.
