Staff Software Engineer, Product Data Platform

What you'll do

• Lead technical strategy for critical data platform initiatives by balancing long-term architecture with near-term delivery.
• Resolve systemic performance, consistency, and scalability issues across multiple teams.
• Direct the architectural roadmap for query performance including indexing strategies, cost models, and schema design.
• Design distributed systems while managing trade-offs between consistency, latency, caching, and failure modes.
• Raise technical standards through design reviews and hands-on troubleshooting of production latency issues.
• Identify scaling risks and reliability gaps to create actionable improvement plans for the group.
• Mentor senior engineers and develop the next generation of technical leaders within the organization.
• Execute high-stakes initiatives and critical path decisions using Kotlin or Java in the JVM ecosystem.

What we're looking for

• Must have 8+ years of backend engineering experience building and operating production systems at scale.
• Must have a track record of leading architecture and delivery for large-scale distributed systems in platform or infrastructure environments.
• Must possess deep hands-on expertise with relational databases, specifically Postgres or Aurora.
• Must be able to drive ambiguous, cross-cutting problems to resolution without a defined charter.
• Must have strong written and verbal communication skills to influence stakeholders and align teams without direct authority.
• Must have experience mentoring senior engineers.
• Experience in the JVM ecosystem (Kotlin/Java) is required for high-stakes initiatives.
• Preferred experience includes OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, streaming data platforms like Flink or Kafka, and AI product foundations.
