Staff Software Engineer, Product Data Platform

What you'll do

• Lead technical strategy for critical PDP initiatives, balancing long-term architecture with near-term delivery across multiple teams.
• Identify and resolve systemic performance, consistency, and scalability problems across cross-team gaps.
• Own the architecture direction for query performance, including indexing strategies, cost models, and schema design.
• Design distributed systems with specific focus on consistency, latency, caching, and failure modes.
• Raise technical standards through design reviews and hands-on troubleshooting of production latency issues.
• Proactively identify scaling risks and reliability gaps to create actionable improvement plans.
• Mentor senior engineers and develop the next generation of technical leaders within the PDP group.
• Contribute code to high-stakes initiatives primarily within the JVM ecosystem using Kotlin and Java.

What we're looking for

• 8+ years of backend engineering experience building and operating production systems at scale.
• Experience as a technical leader on multi-team initiatives.
• Track record of leading architecture and delivery for large-scale distributed systems in a platform or infrastructure environment.
• Deep hands-on expertise with relational databases (Postgres or Aurora strongly preferred), including query plan analysis and indexing strategies.
• Ability to drive ambiguous, cross-cutting problems to resolution without a defined charter.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills to influence stakeholders and align teams without direct authority.
• Experience mentoring senior engineers.
• Hands-on experience with OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, streaming data platforms (Flink, Kafka), or AI platform foundations (preferred).
