Staff Software Engineer, EAA CX

What you'll do

• Own the AI maturity and developer-experience roadmap by prototyping solutions on Coinbase's production AI infrastructure.
• Lead platform excellence workstreams to improve reliability, observability, and operational readiness for Tier-1 systems.
• Define the build-versus-buy strategy for developer-experience and AI tooling across the EAA-CX organization.
• Provide architectural coverage for squads to solve complex technical challenges while maintaining portfolio-wide coherence.
• Build secure, distributed backend services with full SLO ownership and incident response in a regulated environment.
• Integrate agentic AI systems including RAG pipelines, LLM orchestration layers, and evaluation guardrails.
• Write high-quality, well-tested code to set engineering standards for large-scale distributed systems.

What we're looking for

• 8+ years of software engineering experience architecting and delivering large-scale distributed systems.
• Deep proficiency in backend service design, API development (gRPC, MCP, GraphQL), and scalable microservices architectures.
• Proven ability to independently lead ambiguous, high-impact technical initiatives from whiteboard to production across multi-team problem spaces.
• Strong experience with cloud-native infrastructure including AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform, CI/CD pipelines, and event-driven architectures.
• Track record building secure, compliant internal tools with experience in security controls, access management, and data governance.
• Experience building or integrating with agentic AI systems, LLM orchestration, RAG pipelines, and guardrail frameworks.
• Proficiency in Go and willingness to work across Python.
• Experience utilizing generative AI responsibly to deliver business-ready outputs and improve workflow efficiency.
