Staff Software Engineer, Banking

What you'll do

• Lead technical strategy for critical banking initiatives, balancing long-term architecture with near-term delivery needs.
• Design and evolve reliable, scalable systems for money movement, bank accounts, and payment orchestration.
• Translate complex business and regulatory requirements into durable technical solutions with cross-functional partners.
• Resolve systemic reliability, quality, and operability issues while improving observability and engineering standards.
• Drive architecture reviews and align stakeholders to make technical tradeoffs in ambiguous spaces.
• Mentor senior engineers and emerging technical leaders to raise the bar on system design and ownership.
• Contribute directly to high-stakes initiatives through design, debugging, rollout strategy, or implementation.

What we're looking for

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including experience as a senior technical leader on complex, multi-team initiatives.
• Demonstrated track record of leading architecture and delivery for large-scale distributed systems in a product or platform engineering environment.
• Strong systems thinking and the ability to simplify complex technical and organizational problems into clear, actionable plans.
• Experience improving reliability, operational excellence, and engineering quality in production systems with meaningful customer or business impact.
• Ability to work effectively across engineering, product, design, operations, compliance, risk, and other cross-functional partners.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and align teams without direct authority.
• Hands-on technical depth and sound engineering judgment, including the ability to dive into implementation details when needed.
• Experience mentoring senior engineers and helping scale technical leadership across an organization.
• Experience in fintech, banking, payments, ledgering, or money movement systems (preferred).
• Experience building systems in highly regulated environments (preferred).
• Experience leading large migrations, platform consolidations, or service modernization efforts (preferred).
• Experience working with external financial or infrastructure partners and integrating third-party systems into critical product flows (preferred).
• Experience defining technical strategy for org-level investments that span product, platform, and operational workflows (preferred).
