TL;DR · Staff Propulsion Engineer, Air Vehicles, Solid Rocket Motor Integration

As a Staff Propulsion Engineer at Air Vehicles, you will serve as a key contributor in the selection and integration of Solid Rocket Motors (SRMs), ignition systems, Thrust Vector Control (TVC) systems, and ordnance on missile platforms. Your daily tasks include designing prototype components, conducting ground static fire tests, and collaborating with SRM vendors to develop strategic partnerships. You will also lead CAD design for structural integration and motor cases, ensuring compliance with manufacturing methods such as machining and filament winding. The role requires extensive experience in propulsion engineering, particularly with tactical missiles and launch vehicles, along with proficiency in internal ballistics codes and propellant burn-back models. Preferred skills include hands-on testing experience, knowledge of TVC systems, and expertise in NX/Teamcenter, Python, and MATLAB. This position demands a deep understanding of solid rocket motor integration challenges at scale within the defense industry.

What you'll do

  • Lead the selection, architecting, and integration of Solid Rocket Motors on missile platforms.
  • Design and test prototype components for thrust vector control and ignition systems.
  • Plan and execute ground static fire tests for solid rocket propulsion systems.
  • Coordinate with SRM vendors to develop strategic partnerships and manage projects.
  • Act as a technical authority for major subsystems in propulsion system integration.

What we're looking for

  • 12+ years of propulsion engineering experience on tactical missiles, launch vehicles, or air vehicles.
  • Professional experience with Solid Rocket Motors (SRMs) for defense or aerospace applications.
  • Experience leading the integration of solid rocket propulsion systems and acting as technical authority.
  • Utilization of internal ballistics codes and propellant burn-back models for SRM performance predictions.
  • Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing methods including machining, composites, and high-temperature materials.
  • Active Secret security clearance required.
