The Staff Gen AI Research Scientist joins the Air Dominance & Strike team to serve as a founding ML expert. This highly applied research role involves designing, fine-tuning, and deploying next-generation generative AI, LLMs, and agentic systems to power air-dominance platforms and collaborative autonomous behaviors. You will develop, pre-train, and fine-tune in-house LLMs and multimodal foundation models, applying techniques like SFT, RLHF, and DPO. Responsibilities include optimizing models for power-constrained edge hardware using quantization, distillation, and pruning, while building agentic architectures for multi-domain military missions. You will utilize Python, PyTorch, JAX, Axolotl, Hugging Face, DeepSpeed, Megatron-LM, LangChain, and LlamaIndex. The work focuses on creating a powerful autonomy software stack for robotic systems, enabling reasoning over camera feeds, radar, telemetry, and operational orders.
Develop, pre-train, and fine-tune in-house LLMs and multimodal foundation models.
Apply post-training alignment techniques like SFT, RLHF, and DPO to maximize model capability.
Optimize models for deployment on power-constrained tactical edge hardware using quantization and pruning.
Design and implement agentic architectures and multi-agent coordination frameworks for military missions.
Define and execute data collection strategies across physical assets, test sites, and virtual simulations.
Build scalable evaluation frameworks to measure model performance, reliability, and safety.
Create early-stage prototypes with customers and iterate them into production-grade features.
What we're looking for
Production-level coding skills in Python and deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or JAX.
Hands-on experience training, fine-tuning, and evaluating LLMs, Generative AI, or multimodal models.
2+ years of dedicated experience in a technical discipline focusing on generative models and modern transformer architectures.
Experience using modern model training, alignment, and orchestration tools such as Axolotl, Hugging Face, DeepSpeed, Megatron-LM, LangChain, or LlamaIndex.
Degree (B.S., M.S., or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Robotics, Physics, Mathematics, or a related technical field.
Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance.
Proven track record of running deep learning models on edge accelerators under severe power and compute constraints (preferred).
Experience building and shipping AI-powered products used by millions of users from research prototype to production (preferred).
