JOB TITLE: Staff Database Engineer The Staff Database Engineer joins the Venmo Data Platforms team to engineer and operate internal and customer-facing production data stores. Key technologies include Aurora MySQL, Amazon DocumentDB, Cassandra, ElastiCache, OpenSearch, and DynamoDB. You will utilize Python, Java, Bash, AWS CLI, CloudFormation, Terraform, and Ansible to manage relational and non-relational data stores. This position solves critical problems regarding platform resilience and data-driven innovation for Venmo's production environment, ensuring high-performance database operations and seamless data management across the platform.

What we're looking for

5+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Expertise with programming and scripting using Lambda, API GW, Python, Java, and Bash.
Expertise with database design for relational and non-relational data stores.
Expertise with database operations including AWS DynamoDB, AWS DocumentDB, Cassandra, MySQL, AWS Aurora, Redis, and Elasticsearch.
Experience mentoring and developing leads and engineers.
Strong communication skills with the ability to explain technical issues to a non-technical audience.
Infrastructure as code experience with AWS CLI, AWS CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible, or Puppet (preferred).
AWS Solutions Architect certification (preferred).
