Staff Backend Engineer, Database Automation (Go)

What you'll do

• Develop Go-based automation to manage the full PostgreSQL lifecycle including provisioning, configuration, and scaling.
• Build a "PostgreSQL as a Service" platform to replace bespoke setups with standardized, automated management.
• Design and implement infrastructure that supports high-throughput, always-on production workloads at scale.
• Integrate cloud provider services like compute, storage, and networking into a single coherent database platform.
• Create tools for safe, repeatable PostgreSQL major version upgrades validated against real production traffic.
• Incorporate AI agents into daily workflows to automate repetitive tasks and improve engineering efficiency.
• Research and implement improvements to PostgreSQL performance, scalability, and data health.
• Review code from other engineers and document automation practices for the broader engineering team.

What we're looking for

• Professional software engineering experience with PostgreSQL in large, complex production environments.
• Experience building or operating a database-as-a-service product.
• Proficiency with Go for designing, implementing, testing, and reviewing backend services.
• Experience developing Kubernetes operators, controllers, or similar automation for the lifecycle of stateful services.
• Comfort with infrastructure as code and core database operations like high availability, replication, and backups.
• Strong written communication skills and ability to work asynchronously in a distributed team.
• Ability to lead technical direction for major initiatives and mentor other engineers through design reviews.
• Familiarity with Ruby (preferred).
