Staff Backend Engineer, Architecture Engineering

What you'll do

• Set technical direction for agentic systems and determine where automated agents should replace human workflows.
• Identify and prioritize friction points in the software development lifecycle to develop and ship automated solutions.
• Work across any part of the codebase to solve problems as a generalist engineer.
• Apply distributed systems judgment to ensure generated code functions correctly under concurrency and at scale.
• Mentor mid-level and senior engineers on agent engineering practices and distributed systems principles.
• Represent the team's technical progress to stakeholders within the Chief Technology Officer’s organization.
• Serve as a bar raiser for hiring by leading technical leadership interviews for other staff-level candidates.
• Build and own the greenfield technical foundation for new AI-driven products from inception.

What we're looking for

• Experience building reliable agentic or large language model (LLM)-based systems including multi-step orchestration and guardrails.
• Ability to work autonomously in unfamiliar codebases to drive solutions from discovery through completion.
• Strong distributed systems and computer science fundamentals, including consistency, idempotency, and failure modes.
• Proficiency in Go, Rust, or Python with the ability to read and modify code in the others.
• Track record of delivering results from unclear requirements by decomposing complex problems into shippable steps.
• Experience designing evaluation frameworks for systems where "looks plausible" and "is actually correct" are different questions.
• History of unblocking teammates through design reviews, technical writing, or mentoring.
• Ability to serve as a bar raiser for hiring and lead technical leadership rounds for other candidates.
