TL;DR · SRE Product Owner

The SRE Product Owner leads and grows a Site Reliability Engineering team supporting BAN/LAN/WLAN Transport Site Reliability Engineering and Operations for a large-scale, geographically dispersed enterprise network. This role involves owning the product backlog, managing a team of 8–12 engineers, and partnering with other Product Owners to align roadmaps and dependencies. Key responsibilities include refining user stories, leading SAFe Agile ceremonies, and translating technical constraints into program-level delivery. The candidate must possess a working command of enterprise routing, switching, and wireless technologies to prioritize backlog items and evaluate technical trade-offs. Required skills include proficiency with ADO, configuration management, and change management processes. The role solves complex problems regarding operational stability, technical debt, and modernization across a massive network environment involving thousands of devices.

What you'll do

  • Own, prioritize, and refine the product backlog for the SRE Transport team to balance customer needs and technical risk.
  • Translate stakeholder requirements into clear features, user stories, and acceptance criteria for technical engineers.
  • Align cross-team roadmaps and resolve competing priorities with other Product Owners across the Transport portfolio.
  • Lead Agile ceremonies including backlog grooming, sprint planning, story sizing, and Program Increment planning.
  • Manage the day-to-day performance, workload distribution, and career development for a team of 8–12 engineers.
  • Coordinate on-call rotations, off-hours maintenance coverage, and resource forecasting for program leadership.
  • Act as the primary liaison between engineering and leadership by translating technical constraints into business context.
  • Support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reviews to ensure remediation items are captured and tracked in the backlog.

What we're looking for

  • Bachelor's degree with 8–12 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Product Owner, Scrum Master, or technical program/project lead within a SAFe Agile framework.
  • Prior experience directly managing or leading technical teams of 5+ engineers.
  • Active Secret security clearance required.
  • Recognized Agile/Product Owner certification (e.g., SAFe POPM, CSPO, PMI-ACP) or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • DoD 8570.01 IAT Level II or higher certification (e.g., Security+, CASP+, CISSP) preferred; required if role involves privileged access to network management tools.
  • Working knowledge of enterprise BAN/LAN/WLAN and network boundary architecture.
  • Proficiency with ADO for backlog, roadmap, and reporting management.
  • Previous experience supporting the Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI) network or comparable large-scale DoD network environment (preferred).
  • Prior experience as a Product Owner or technical lead specifically within a network engineering, SRE, or NetOps organization (preferred).
  • Working familiarity with network automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) concepts (preferred).
  • Active or prior Cisco networking certification (CCNA/CCNP) a plus (preferred).
