What you'll do

Set the technical direction for Venmo's CFS platform, including authentication, authorization, and fraud risk systems.
Make high-level technical decisions that impact multiple teams across organizational boundaries.
Translate regulatory requirements like KYC, AML, and GDPR into implementable engineering solutions.
Partner with product management to ideate and solve complex business problems.
Lead architectural reviews and define engineering standards for system scalability and security.
Mentor senior engineers through design docs, code reviews, and technical debates.
Proactively identify and resolve risks related to authentication flows, compliance gaps, or scaling bottlenecks.
Own the performance and availability of services while participating in on-call rotations.

What we're looking for

A Bachelor's degree in computer science, a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
8+ years of relevant experience is required.
12+ years of software engineering experience with focus on backend platforms, authentication, or security-critical systems at scale is preferred.
Deep expertise in Python and API management including OAuth 2.0, OIDC, SAML, and FIDO2/WebAuthn is preferred.
Proven track record of defining and shipping large-scale distributed systems and leading technical strategy across multiple teams is preferred.
Hands-on comfort with backend systems (Python, Java, Go) and Cloud (AWS) with security engineering fundamentals is preferred.
Experience designing systems that meet regulatory requirements such as KYC, AML, GDPR, or PCI is preferred.
Strong communication skills to explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical stakeholders is required.
