As a Sr Product Software Engineer (News Front-End), you will join the News Web Squad within the Product Engineering team. You will be responsible for building and maintaining the websites for ABC News and eight ABC Owned and Operated Television Stations. Your daily work involves developing specifications and technical designs for new features, refactors, and architectural improvements while shipping product-level features for high-traffic environments. You will utilize a modern tech stack including TypeScript, JavaScript, Node, and React to deliver scalable solutions. The role involves solving complex technical puzzles related to surfacing personalized video, tallying election results, and connecting local audiences to breaking news. You will also mentor less experienced engineers, conduct code reviews, and drive software engineering best practices to improve system performance, accessibility, and observability.

What you'll do

Build and ship product-level features for ABC News and ABC Owned and Operated television station websites.
Develop technical specifications and designs for new features, refactors, and architectural improvements.
Review peer code for design, testability, and usability to maintain high engineering standards.
Identify and lead initiatives to improve system performance, accessibility, observability, and developer experience.
Influence software engineering best practices and select technical methods with minimal guidance.
Serve as a technical resource and mentor junior engineers through code reviews and design discussions.
Own products and features throughout the full software development lifecycle from design to deployment.

What we're looking for

Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional software engineering experience.
Extensive experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, React, Node.js, and modern front-end web development technologies.
Proven ability to own products and features throughout the full software development lifecycle.
Experience designing and delivering scalable features for high-traffic environments.
Strong commitment to software quality, including automated testing and code reviews.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
BS in Computer Science or a related technical discipline or its equivalent.
Experience mentoring engineers and providing technical leadership (preferred).
